Kathmandu: The Government of Nepal has committed to ensuring the safety and security of all Nepali nationals, including students in Bangladesh. Arrangements have been made to return 17 Nepali students studying at Inam Medical College in the Sawar region of Bangladesh, following requests from concerned families.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) stated that it has been closely coordinating with universities, relevant authorities, and law enforcement agencies in Bangladesh to facilitate the safe return of Nepali students. As of today, approximately 800 Nepali students have left Bangladesh for Nepal by air or via land border points.

The Embassy of Nepal in Dhaka has played a key role in coordinating the travel of students from various parts of Bangladesh to Dhaka airport or related border points. The Ministry has urged Nepali students facing any difficulties, along with their parents and relatives, to fill out an online form for necessary information, support, and facilitation. This application can also be submitted from Nepal by concerned family members via the link: https://legal.nepalconsular.gov.np/passport.

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli announced on social media that arrangements have been made to bring 17 Nepali students from Inam Medical College in the Sawar region to Dhaka airport by 4 am, followed by their return to Kathmandu.

Oli mentioned that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a notice to facilitate the return of other students who wish to come back to Nepal. Due to protests demanding the abolition of the quota system in government services in Bangladesh, Nepali students have been feeling insecure.

Approximately three thousand Nepali students are currently studying in various universities in Bangladesh, according to the Embassy of Nepal in Dhaka. Returning students have been requested by MoFA to share their personal details, the name of their academic institution in Bangladesh, and their return date to Nepal via email to info@mofa.gov.np.
